Along the Ribeira de Valongo, Ribeira de Leomil right after the Vidual and the Ribeira da Dama, one of her streams, the existing picturesque watermills now serving as ornaments in the landscape and sharing the same luck as the rural and patriarchal economy - fall abandoned, invaded by bush and broom.

This form of rural economy, with an important place in the economic system of societies, organized around the exchange of the grinding service for the charge of a small percentage of the ground flour and the exploitation of all the natural possibilities of the hills, it was formerly a sign of economical comfort. In times of need, being a miller meant, for himself and his family, the remedy for the hunger plague. But at the primary school the miller’s children were not aloud the right to eat the free soup provided to all the children by the social assistance of the time.
